St. Andrew School students learn about Veterans Day

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

Students at St. Andrew School in Murphysboro got a lesson on Veterans Day a little early this year.

On Thursday, a luncheon was held for the 15th year, to recognize local veterans. Kids, parents, veterans and local leaders worked together for the assembly. The Little Egypt Barber Shop Chorus also sang a few tunes.

Students spent the week making the patriotic decorations to show support for the war heroes.

Organizer and parent, Angie Bailey said she hopes what the kids learn, sticks.

"The kids learn so much from it and to hear," Bailey explained. "The teachers work with them on art projects and things so they can learn more about the war and the different branches of the military and all that's done by our vets."

The gathering also included a presentation of the "Fallen Soldiers' Table" by the local boy scouts, and each of the veteran's on hand were individually recognized.
