MACEDONIA, Ill. (AP) - Federal mine officials are investigating this week's death of a 36-year-old miner from southern Illinois.
The (Carbondale) Southern reports (http://bit.ly/1fmeK2V ) Dallas D. Travelstead died Monday after being crushed by a piece of coal that rolled on top of him.
He worked at a mine in eastern Franklin County near Macedonia.
The accident is being investigated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
Officials say Travelstead's death is the fourth mining fatality in Illinois this year and the 19th in the U.S.
