CHICAGO (AP) - Thousands of children living in public housing will be getting new winter coats through a Chicago Housing Authority program.
The CHA is teaming with the nonprofit organization Operation Warm to distribute 10,000 coats to kids. The event is scheduled for Saturday morning at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
It's the sixth year of the coat distribution. Kids living in CHA properties as well as those whose families receive housing assistance are eligible.
Last year, more than 5,000 people attended the event.
It also will feature a resource fair, where attendees can learn about educational and workforce opportunities and how to get help paying their heating bills.
