CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A group of students at the University of Kentucky wore empty holsters to support conceal carry on campus Wednesday.

The university prohibits any weapons on campus but students are firing back, saying if they have a permit, they should be allowed to carry.

"I think that would cause a lot more problems and a lot more violence and I feel like, especially in college, we don't need that on a college campus because I feel like it's more dangerous," student Shahbaz Kahn said.

"I know I trust myself, but I don't know if I trust anybody else," student Jayda Brink said. "I think it would be a little weird knowing that someone next to me might have a gun on them. So, I'm not really sure. I think it might make me feel safer in some situations, but not so much in others."

"I personally would feel a lot safer with, even though it would be a law, no one really carrying just because things could always happen," student Allante Stubberfield said. "So, I personally just feel safer, no weapons on campus at all."

Student Aaliyah Moore said: "People can get into altercations and feel that they need the gun to help. I mean, anything could happen and they could try to get their gun. So, I don't think it's a safe thing for students on campus to have."

While students aren't allowed to carry on campus, after the law takes effect, with a permit, they will be able to carry a gun anywhere else it's allowed.

They are still prohibited from carrying them into student housing, but anywhere off campus falls under city jurisdiction.
