Sikeston to test weather warning sirens daily at noon

Posted: Updated:

Sikeston Department of Public Safety has installed the last two weather-warning sirens.

The DPS says you don't have to call 911 or police when you hear the Westminster chimes each day at noon, this is only a test.

Should a weather warning be necessary, the city says they will broadcast details of the weather emergency and advise what action you need to take.

Although you may be able hear this warning system inside your home, it is primarily designed to warn those outdoors, according to DPS.

Residents of Sikeston can visit and enroll on the city’s “CODE RED” telephone warning system. The automated system will call your phone and give weather warning information (or other emergency broadcasts) for the area.

The sirens will play the chimes for around 28 seconds each day.
