CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Many people in the Heartland say they've experienced problems trying to apply online with the Affordable Care Act.
Several people say they logged on to healthcare.gov to try and go ahead and get signing up out of the way and couldn't even get past step one.
Phillip Jordan went to the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging for help enrolling. He doesn't have a computer and figured he'd need extra help with the application process anyway. In his case, Jordan says he's certain he is qualified for a certain program, yet due to the glitch, the computer told him otherwise.
"It's not telling me what I want to hear because it doesn't know either," said Jordan. "They are trying their best to help me."
Jackie Dover was the worker attempting to find a way around the issue.
"People just need to have some patience right now," said Dover, a service referral specialist. "We are happy to help them but it's probably best to wait until the site is cleaned up. You can still do it over the phone or file the old school paper way."
Dover says she tried everything for Jordan and others like him. She made some phone calls and did some digging and still couldn't get around the glitch.
"We feel it's probably best to wait to try online until November 1st," said Dover. "We haven't heard anything as to when they expect it to be totally fixed."
Jordan says he's content to be patient. "I am just glad I'm not the one that has to figure this out," said Jordan. "It's going to be a headache."
