Mo. congressman talks about shutdown vote

Posted: Updated:
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

United States Congressman Jason Smith (R-MO) is talking about his vote against ending the shutdown.

He says it's because he's also against raising the debt ceiling.

Smith says our country has to find a way to see eye to eye.

"I am disappointed," said Congressman Smith. "Because, I believe when you try to increase the debt ceiling plan with no repayment plan and no collateral, we have a spending problem and we need to figure out how to deal with it without continuing to open up the checkbook and write checks."

House and Senate negotiators say they plan to meet to see if they can reach a compromise to reduce the deficit.
