Thousands of Catfish stocked in Perry County

PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Fishermen in Perry County will get the chance to drop a line in their own backyard.

The Perry County commissioners are teaming up with the Missouri Department of Conservation to stock the area lakes with catfish.

Commissioner Jim Sutterer says it's part of the community assistance program, where the county is in charge of the land in the park, and the Missouri Department Of Conservation is in charge of the water.

MDC put thousands of catfish in Legion Lake and the County Lake.

Sutterer says it's all to encourage people to fish in their parks.

“Everybody's looking for a place to fish, and to take their families, and that's a good place to go fishing,” said Sutterer. “ With the Department Of Conservation putting fish in there, keeping it stocked every year, then that's another plus.”

Sutterer says they're bringing the catfish in from Kansas City. He says the partnership with the Department Of Conservation means stocking the lakes doesn't have to come out of the county's pocketbook.
