Unclear if Ill. will be reimbursed for paying Guard members during shutdown

Posted: Updated:

As federal employees made their way back to work, the effects of the government shut can still being felt by some agencies.

During the time of the shut down, Illinois' National Guard had to cancel critical drill and training hours, along with money that went with it.

But, instead of going without a paycheck, the state paid guard members through a separate fund.

Now, it's hoped congress will pay back the cash-strapped state.

“It is still unclear if the state will be reimbursed for what it paid to those employees out of the general revenue fund,” said CPT Dutch Grove, Ill. National Guard Public Affairs Office.

Some other issues the National Guard is facing due to the shut down include some delays in the transportation of equipment and supplies used for monthly drills, things that may not be available by November.
