CARRIER MILLS, IL (KFVS) - The Carrier Mills town park is being vandalized and now police are asking people living nearby to help them keep an eye on things.
The vandals have damaged several of the pieces of playground equipment over the past couple of weeks.
The playground equipment was part of a grant from Dr Pepper and Snapple at a cost of more than $10,000.
Now several hundreds of dollars of damage has left the playground equipment a dangerous place to play for families and their children.
"It's not fair," said Megan Owens of Carrier Mills. " I have a child that's got partial handicap, and it's not fair for them because he gets to go out there and play all the time. But when it's vandalized and he doesn't have the handrails to hold on to, he doesn't get to enjoy it. Because other kids go out there and ruin it for the good kids that actually use the park."
The Carrier Mills park board is still trying to figure out how to pay for all the damage by the vandals.
Police can use the extra eyes on the area to help them catch who is destroying the town park.
