HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - Researchers at the Herrin Cemetery found six more unmarked graves during day three of the dig.
Crews say the grave sites belonged to two children, two adults and one disinterment and were all found in sold plots.
The team will present their findings to the city council who will then begin contacting families who have been sold lots in a potter's field.
A few weeks ago, Herrin's mayor argued to stop the dig all together which is why Friday's success was crucial for the dig to continue.
Supporters in Herrin had been digging up portions of a cemetery in hopes of finding the remains of people who died in the 1922 Herrin Massacre.
