Rain cancels Special Olympics softball competition

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - According to Brandon Schatsiek with Missouri Special Olympics, the softball competition Saturday and Sunday has been canceled due to field conditions. However, all Saturday evening activities will go on as scheduled at the Student Rec Center.

He says to please stay as planned. Teams that signed up for meals and Saturday hotels will be responsible for the cost if they decide to depart early.

According to Schatsiek, their priority is for the athletes to have an enjoyable evening.

The Special Olympics fall games kicked off with  the opening ceremony  Friday night at the Show-Me-Center.

Almost 1,110 athletes compete in over three hundred events all over Cape Girardeau including flag football and golf.

More than 16,000 athletes take part is the Missouri Special Olympics every year.
