Hispanic community leader to receive veteran award

CHICAGO (KFVS) - Eduardo Delgado, a U.S. Air Force veteran and Hispanic community leader, will be honored as the Illinois Veteran of the Month for October this year.

The ceremony will take place Tuesday October 15, at 3 p.m. at the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, 3015 W. Division St, Chicago, Ill.

Delgado was deployed numerous times in support of military action in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.

Delgado has also contributed to the community as an active leader within the National Society of Hispanic MBA's Chicago Chapter, Boy Scouts of America, Dr. Pedro Albizu High School's basketball team, Illinois Veteran Advisory Council, and Student Veterans of America.

Delgado received an award for leadership upon graduating the University of Washington with the Finance Society.

Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs Director Erica Borggren will present the award, which includes a framed proclamation as well as a State Flag on behalf of Governor Pat Quinn.
