Heartland families welcome soldiers home

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - It was a big day for several military families Wednesday as they welcomed their loved ones home from their deployment overseas.

Kyle Cox, Laramy Tillman, and Gerrett Hendrix served in the Army in Afghanistan for the past year.

"I've missed all my family and friends," Cox said.

Cox's girlfriend, Taylor Fuwell, said it's been a long year but she was by his side every step of the way.

"I've sat at home until 3am making care packages," Fuwell said.

Susan Cox, Kyle's mother, said the excitement of knowing he's on his way home was overwhelming.

"It's almost like the day he was first born, except you already know. It's that anticipation. It's that exciting," Susan Cox said.

Laramy Tillman's mom said she's so glad her son is home safe.

"[I said] a lot of prayers," Tina March said. "I prayed everyday for his safe return and that's what I think is bringing him home safe today."

Tillman's girlfriend said she's so proud of what he's done for our country.

"He's so great at what he does," Aimee Smith said. "He's so humble about it. I'm really proud of him. I love him.
