Veterans still able to see memorials in D.C.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The World War Two Memorial was shuttered because it's part of the national park system that's affected by the shutdown.

Veterans from Missouri and Illinois showed up to see the memorials, not knowing if they would also be allowed see to them.

Jack Poitras, a Vietnam veteran, was told that due to the government shutdown that the group may not be able to see the Vietnam memorial today. Poitras said that wasn't an option.

"I am willing to be arrested so I can play tabs at the Vietnam Memorial," Poitras said. "I've got over 200 friends of mine that are on the wall."

Poitras said veterans showed up by the busload.
