Paducah Police Department receives distracted driving grant

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Police Department has received a distracted driving grant to focus on enforcement of texting while driving.

According to the department, the grant provides $10,000 for overtime and runs Sept. 5 through Dec. 5.

"Paducah Police Department officers plan to conduct enforcement on Hinkleville Road, the Kentucky Oaks Mall area, Lone Oak Road and the downtown area, which previously have been identified as having elevated collision frequency," Capt. Don Hodgson said.

The grant is funded by Federal Highway Administration and administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Office of Highway Safety.

The Paducah Police Department is one of only five agencies in the state to receive a grant.

The others were Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort and Franklin County.
