CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A Carbondale man pleaded guilty Wednesday to forgery charges and was sentenced to prison.
Police say Michael M. Broadnax, 45, of Carbondale, entered a plea agreement and was sentenced to serve four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He will serve a one-year period of mandatory supervised release upon release from prison.
Police began an investigation in June 2013 when a victim reported that her checkbook had been stolen and a number of checks had been written without her permission.
Officers got hold of video surveillance from the Carbondale Kroger where some of the checks were written.
Officers then identified Broadnax as using the checks to buy store items.
