2 seriously injured after vehicle hit by train

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Two people were seriously injured after their vehicle was hit by a train in Butler County Saturday afternoon.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 1:30 on County Road 321, 1 mile north of Harviell when Dustin G. Putman, 25 of Poplar Bluff, drove his truck into the path of a train.

Putman and his passenger, Tricia Ellis, 24 of Poplar Bluff, were both thrown from the truck.

Putman was flown to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, while Ellis was flown to St. Francis Medical center in Cape Girardeau.

Troopers say neither Putman nor Ellis were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The railroad crossing was reportedly marked with two crossbucks but had no electric signs and no stop arms.
