(KFVS) - Southern Illinois scored 17 unanswered points to break a 19-19 tie and beat Southeast Missouri State 36-19 in the first college football game played at Busch Stadium.
A crowd of 14,618 fans in Saluki and Redhawk gear saw history as the regional rivals battled at the home of the St. Louis Cardinals. The win improves SIU to 2-2 and drops SEMO to 0-3 on the season.
SIU Senior quarterback Kory Faulkner started despite suffering a strained AC joint in his non-throwing shoulder last Saturday and wearing a sling in practice this week. Faulkner completed 16-30 passes for 200 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the win. He got help from his running game, which managed 212 yards on 41 carries, led by Malcolm Agnew's 127 yards and a score.
Southeast Missouri State got starting quarterback Kyle Snyder back from injury, as Snyder amassed 249 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Paul McRoberts had a hearty homecoming to his native St. Louis, reeling in five catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns. The SEMO run game struggled, as six backs combined for just 90 total yards.
