1 dead after head-on crash on Elkville Rd.

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-car, head-on crash on Elkville Road Friday afternoon.

According to the sheriff's office, the crash happened around 2:13 p.m. on Elkville Road near McMahan Road between Vergennes and Elkville.

Deputies say a sliver 2006 Chrysler driven by 76-year-old Dolores J. Robbins of Ava, Ill. was going eastbound when she crossed the center line and hit a white 2000 Toyota driven by 45-year-old Darren W. Coffel of Dowell.

According to the sheriff's office, Elkville Road was blocked due to the crash and both drivers had to be removed from their vehicles by the fire department.

Robbins was taken to a Murphysboro hospital and later transported to a St. Louis hospital.

Coffel was taken to a Carbondale hospital and passed away from his injuries.
