MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Murray Police Department has received a number of calls on Friday saying that identity thieves are trying to gain personal information from Murray residents.
Residents say they are are receiving calls from unusual numbers that don't correspond to a real telephone number.
A computerized voice then informs the potential victim that their credit or debit card has expired. They are then asked to enter their credit card number. This is an attempt to get account information and to steal the identity of the person being called.
The Murray Police Department says if your bank or financial institution calls you, they will have the information for the account, and will not ask you for your account information. And, to never give your account information to anyone in a transaction you didn't start.
