Walk-in flu clinics begin Wednesday in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Jackson County Health Department will begin providing the flu vaccine on a walk-in basis beginning Wednesday, September 18.  The clinics will last through November 8.  
Those who wish to get the vaccine can do so between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  On Thursday the vaccine is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:50 p.m.  There will also be several clinics held throughout the community this flu season.  Flu vaccine is available as a shot or nasal mist.  
Flu vaccination is free for anyone with Medicare B, Medicaid, or who is a State employee or retiree, with proper ID.  The Jackson County Health Department will also accept most forms of insurance.
Flu shots are recommended for everyone over 6 months of age.  Flu season runs from October through May.  The vaccine takes up to two weeks for protection to develop after the vaccination.
