JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A Murphysboro alderman faces multiple charges including sex abuse and kidnapping.

Ronald Nolan, 46, was charged Monday for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, kidnapping, and unlawful restraint, according to the Jackson County State’s Attorney.

Some of Nolan's friends are shocked over the allegations.

"I am shocked to hear about these charges against Ronald Nolan," said Cleophas Shanklin of Murphysboro. "Every since I've known him, he's been a pretty straight guy. But now these charges against him, I don;t know if he's going to be able to beat them or not."

The aggravated criminal sexual abuse and kidnapping charges are class 2 felonies. The unlawful restraint charge is a class 4 felony. A class 2 felony has a maximum penalty of three to seven years and a class 4 felony has a maximum penalty of one to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Nolan was arrested Thursday, Sept. 12. His bond was set at $250,000 bond.

Nolan did not enter a plea in court Tuesday. He did ask for a bond reduction. The judge denied his request.

He was elected as Alderman for Ward 1 in Murphysboro. He was sworn in on May 1, 2013.

Murphysboro's Mayor Will Stephens says," We are not going to take any action regarding Mr. Nolan's seat at this time. We will wait and see what the outcome of thecase iss, in the courts."

Nolan's next court date is Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
