CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Authorities are investigating a robbery that happened on the campus of Southern Illinois University early Sunday.

According to the university, DPS says it happened in the parking lot north of the Student Recreation Center.

An 18-year-old SIU student told police that he was walking through the parking lot toward his residence hall shortly before 3:20 a.m. when he was approached by six black males.

The victim told police he was told to throw his wallet down, and to stay there. Afterwards, the six suspects ran north from the parking lot toward Mill Street. No one was injured.

Two of the suspects were described as wearing hooded sweatshirts, black sweat pants and dark bandanas with a white diamond pattern.

Two other suspects were described as wearing white T-shirts and dark shorts, and had dark bandanas. The other two suspects were described as wearing long-sleeve black shirts, black sweat pants, possibly white tennis shoes and red bandanas.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SIU Carbondale Department of Public Safety at 618-453-3771 or the Crime Stopper Line at 618-549-COPS.

SIU reminds students to be aware of your surroundings at all times and if traveling at night to use the Saluki Express, Night Safety Transit Service and Brightway Path.
