CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - More than 300 cars rolled into downtown Cape Girardeau for the 36th Annual River Tales Classic Car Show Sunday. Event organizers say it was the biggest event yet.
"This is the single biggest car show in the Cape and Jackson area," Danny Essner, Car Show Chairman, said. "It has been probably since we started it. There are car shows all over the place but this is the biggest one around here. We feel it's an extra nice show. We try to make ours a little but nicer than some of the others in the area. We are a little biased but we feel it is one of the premier car shows in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois."
Cars were broken up into 33 different classes. Car owners were all hoping to bring home a trophy, but say they enjoy being around fellow car lovers.
"I'm hoping for a first place trophy but I'll take anything," Roy Tindell said. "I'm here for the fun and the nostalgia of old cars and I love all of them."
"Well, everybody wants first place but it'd be nice just to place with it, you know, a car show like this, it'd be nice just to place would be great," Ralph Ellett said.
The car show is hosted by the River City Rodders Car Club in conjunction Old Town Cape and the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau. It takes place every year on the Sunday following the SEMO District Fair.
