Fla. pastor arrested after trying to burn more than 2,000 Qurans

(KFVS) -

A Florida pastor with Heartland ties was arrested Wednesday after trying to burn thousands of Muslim holy books.

The Polk County, Florida Sheriff's Department said Terry Jones was arrested, but provided no details about the arrest.

According to a press release, Jones planned on burning almost 3,000 Qurans on Sept. 11.

The Associated Press said Jones was arrested with 2,998 Qurans soaked in kerosene, one for every victim of 9/11.

In 2011, Jones and his congregation burned a Quran and that sparked protests in the Muslim world.
