ELKVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

Several fire departments battled a house and vehicle fire in Elkville.

Firefighters were called out around 2 p.m. to 2728 Haulage Road in Jackson County.

A woman who lives in the home says she and her mother just pulled into the drive in her Jeep when they smelled an odd smell. They got out of the Jeep, then it burst into flames.

"The Jeep actually caught on fire," said Trish Sherman with the Vergennes Fire Department. "We’re not sure yet why the Jeep caught on fire. The Jeep started burning pretty good. It caught the house, caught the siding on the house. And of course this kind of day, hot day like this it goes quick."

The west end of the home sustained extensive damage.

The woman, her husband in the home and several dogs made it out safely.

Firefighters from Ava, Dowell, Vergennes, Elkville, and Murphysboro Pomona Somerset fire departments responded to the scene.

When crews arrived the vehicle and front of house were on fire

The fire is out.
