COPY-Mother charged in death of teen son

SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago woman is being held in lieu of $750,000 in the death of her teenage son during an alleged argument Saturday over ice cream.

Robin Erwin of Sauk Village was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the stabbing of her son, 17-year-old Diontae Erwin. The teen was pronounced dead at Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer, Ind. The Lake County, Ind., coroner's office determined he died from a stab wound to the chest and ruled his death a homicide.

Cook County prosecutors say the mother and son were arguing about ice cream when the stabbing occurred. Robin Erwin called police and told them her son walked into the knife. The coroner's office said the teen's wounds were inconsistent with the mother's assertion.
