SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - At age 12, doctors told Jordan Crawford that she was a type II diabetic.
Her mother said that she didn't want anyone to know and now, it's the opposite. She's an example for others going through the same thing.
Crawford organized the 2nd Annual Walk to Stop Diabetes in Sikeston, Missouri.
Last year, she said they raised $5,000 and the bar is set even higher for this year.
Crawford said she wants to be that example for kids that are going through the same thing she did.
"I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago and my whole family has had it," Crawford said. "I want people to know that there are more diabetics than people think."
"She's more than I hoped she would be," Misti Crawford, Jordan's mother, said.
The walk is set for September 21. Search "Walk to Stop Diabetes" on Facebook for more information.
