What's going on in the Heartland this weekend, Sept. 7-8

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Looking at some events in the Heartland this weekend, Saturday is the official kick off of the 155th Annual SEMO District Fair in Cape Girardeau. You can see a full list of events here.

Saturday is the 16th Annual Bertrand, Mo. Park Fest. You can catch a car show, beauty pageant, and carnival games. The Sikeston Dance Academy Will Perform and the night will end with fireworks.

Saturday there is a benefit poker run at the Wardell, Mo. Fire Department. This is to raise money for a family in need. Jamie Vires and her three daughters were in a car wreck last summer, and two of the little girls died. Since the crash, Vires has worked to make Missouri roads safer, such as getting cautionary signs installed near dangerous intersections. That ride will start at 1 p.m.

You can also help 4-month-old Caselynn Reagan by heading out to a benefit in Scott City, Mo. Two months ago, Caselynn was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that causes extreme muscle and nerve weakness. The benefit will run from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Scott City VFW. There will be a dinner, auction and band.

You can catch music and dance performances in Kennett, Mo. on Saturday And Sunday. The Kennett Alliance for the Arts presents "Fall into Arts." Performances will be from noon to 5 pm. on Saturday and Sunday on the north side of the Kennett courthouse square. A few of the groups performing include the SEMO Little Theatre Group, Kennett School of Performing Arts, and Roxy's Dance Troop out of Malden.

If you are more into hunting than the arts, you can check out the First Annual Southeast Missouri Hunting Seminar And Show. That is open to the public at the Tinnen Fine Arts Theatre at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. It is free and runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
