Party to pack food bags

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - It's a back to school party with a little more flavor.

The Southeast Missouri Food Bank hosted the Party for the Good Friday.

Volunteers are packing more than 10,000 food bags. Those bags will go home with school children each Friday, who need the food.

They support 45 schools in Southeast Missouri. One in 4 children in Southeast Missouri struggles with hunger.

"They're getting fed at school, but on the weekends that obviously might be a problem, and kids are our future and we need to make sure that they're getting nutrition that need," said Hope Pascoe with the Southeast Missouri Food Bank.

"So many of the kids go home and are still hungry and it's very hard, being a former teacher I know it's very difficult for a student to concentrate if they're stomach, if they're hungry," said Nick Leist, a volunteer.
