CHESTER, IL (KFVS) -

A century-old building in Chester, Illinois is set to be demolished.

The building had housed First Bank and many other businesses over the last 100 years at 600 State Street.

“Because of age and the damage the building has sustained in recent years, First Bank has decided to dismantle the structure,” said Jessica Buatte, Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager for Chester. “We have reached out to the businesses and others nearby to let them know the building will be torn down. The building has served the bank, other tenants and the community well over the years but its time has come.”

Environmental Operations, Inc. in St. Louis will demolish the building, according to the bank.

Inside demolition is set for Monday, September 9. The outside demolition is set to begin in mid-October. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The property is owned by First Bank and remains for sale.
