METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) - Labor Day Weekend is the time we celebrate workers here in America.

And, most people take the long holiday weekend to spend it with family and friends.

But, two young girls in Metropolis are working this weekend to save pets.

Ten-year-old Chloe Corzine and her eight-year-old friend Lauren Umberger are going to car-to-car on Saturdays to raise money for the Project Hope Humane Shelter in Metropolis.

The girls are into their third weekend with their fundraising effort.

Chloe says another young girl who was working to save pets too inspired her.

"That just made me want to go out and help animals," said Chloe. "And it made me feel like I could do the same thing that the little girl did. So that's what inspired me to do what I do."

The girls will be back at Sonic Drive-In in Metropolis for their final fundraising effort on Saturday.

Sonic is also going to be selling 50-cent corndogs all day long and donating that money to project hope humane shelter in Metropolis.
