2 cars overturn in injury crash on I-55 in Scott County

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Two women were injured in a two-car crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 55 in Scott County.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, it happened around 6:15 a.m. at the northbound 76.8 mile marker.

Troopers say a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Whitney N. Daniels, 25, of Lilbourn was northbound and she tried to avoid hitting a Toyota Echo.

Daniels overcorrected her car, hitting the Toyota Echo, which was being driven by Benjamin S. Mojica, 73, of Houston, Texas. Both cars traveled off the interstate and overturned. The driver of the Cobalt wasn't wearing a seat belt, and was thrown from her vehicle.

Daniels was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in Mojica's car, Francisa Martinez, 70, of Houston, received minor injuries and was taken to a Sikeston hospital.
