WAYNE CITY, IL (KFVS) - Illinois State Police say two people were injured in a crash on Wayne County Road 300N Friday afternoon.
According to police, around 2:56 p.m. Gary W. Weaver, 66, of Dix, Ill. as driving a 2011 Toyota Yaris and attempting to leave the driveway of a home on Wayne CR 300N when a pedestrian at the home, Carl A. Atteberry, 34, of Wayne City, Ill., became agitated at the people in the car and approached them.
Police say at first, Atteberry hit the front of the Yaris with a liquor bottle, and then got in the way of the car. They say Weaver was unable to avoid hitting Atteberry.
Atteberry was thrown into a ditch on the south side of Wayne CR 300N and was hit again by the Yaris. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of major injuries.
Police say a passenger in the car, Mervin T. Martin, 66, of Wayne City, received minor injuries in the crash, but declined medical assistance. They say everyone in the car was wearing their seatbelts.
ISP is investigating the crash.
