EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - An East Prairie man was arrested recently after the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department investigated him allegedly stealing water from the city.

Austin Loomes, 28, of East Prairie, was charged with felony theft/stealing of property or services valued at more than $500.

Sheriff Keith Moore said Loomes was released after posting a $25,000 surety bond.

According to the sheriff, the investigation began Thursday, Aug. 29 when a deputy was dispatched to investigate the theft of water from the City of East Prairie.

In the deputy's report it said the theft began in late July when the city shut off Loomes' water due to nonpayment on the bill.

The following day, they city said they discovered the water had been turned back on, without their approval, so city workers disconnected the water and removed the meter.

On Aug. 20, city workers discovered an unapproved water meter at the home, and learned Loomes had used the meter to steal the city's water.
