New food at the Du Quoin state fair

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) - A funnel cake is a classic treat at the fair, but this year one food stand has given it a makeover.

"These are the new ones here, we've got the turtle and the peanut butter cup ones," Funnel cake maker Jason Townsond said.

Townsond says while people still love the classic powdered sugar cake, these hot new items are getting lots of customers.

"On a big, busy day, [we will make] probably 500 to 600," Townsond said. "We love our job."

The new cakes are made just like the regular ones at first, but the toppings make the difference. The turtle funnel cake is full of flavor.

"It's a funnel cake topped with powdered sugar, drizzled with caramel and topped with chopped pecans," Townsond said.

Townsond says the peanut butter cup funnel cake recipe is easy.

"Powdered sugar, peanut butter, and it's drizzled with chocolate," Townsond said.

These two new funnel cakes are sold at George's Fun Food stands all week at the Du Quoin State Fair.
