W. Ky. county drafting stricter animal regulations

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) - Leaders in a western Kentucky county say they are considering a proposal to enforce stricter animal regulations as the area gets more urban.

Daviess County Judge-Executive Al Mattingly said officials have been pondering a change in the county ordinance for about six months, but problems have been growing for years.

The Messenger-Inquirer (http://bit.ly/18kFJGt) reports magistrates are in the process of drafting changes and heard comments Tuesday night from about two dozen people about the proposal, which would add regulations for livestock and animal rescue operations.

Mattingly said officials don't want to infringe on the rights of farmers, but do want to make sure all residents can enjoy their property.

He said residents would get another chance to comment on the ordinance after magistrates finish drafting it.
