Rural housing eligibility to change in IL

ILLINOIS (KFVS) -

The USDA Rural Development will be implementing the 2010 Census Data for Rural Development Housing programs, effective Oct. 1.

The result of this will be a change in the eligible areas in the state of Illinois where the Rural Housing Service Programs can be used. You can access the proposed area eligibility maps by clicking here.

Affected communities in Illinois include the following:

  • Carbondale
  • Carterville
  • Charleston
  • Chatham
  • Cranville
  • Energy
  • Freeport
  • Herrin
  • Marion
  • Maryville
  • Morris
  • Plano
  • Rantoul
  • Shiloh
Existing ineligible areas that will also have changing boundary lines include the following counties:
  • Adams
  • Boone
  • Champaign
  • DeKalb
  • Grundy
  • Kane
  • Kankakee
  • Kendall
  • Knox
  • Macon
  • Madison
  • McHenry
  • McLean
  • Peoria
  • Rock Island
  • Sangamon
  • St. Clair
  • Tazewell
  • Vermilion
  • Will
  • Winnebago
Cook, DuPage and Lake counties are unchanged and remain completely ineligible.

Subsequent loans to existing borrowers are not affected by rural designation changes and will continue to be eligible even after the property area becomes ineligible.

Several bills are pending in Congress which may affect future changes.
