MARION, IL (KFVS) -

A Marion man is facing charges in the death of a 23-month old toddler. Now, the toddler's mother is speaking out.

Twenty-5-year-old Kody Johnson is accused of killing Skyler West-France and was charged with first-degree murder.

Andrea West, mother of the toddler, says Johnson was watching Skyler while she was at work.

She says Johnson told her Skyler tripped and fell and hit his head on the couch.

After checking on him an hour later Skyler was unconscious. That's when he was brought to a St. Louis hospital where he later died.

Andrea says doctors told her Johnson's story didn't match Skyler's injuries.

"I'm still believing everything that is going on, because I don't know what's going on with my child yet," Andrea said. "We get home we talk we kiss, we hug ya know? I mean, I find out that night when he left exactly what happened, exactly what happened to my baby."

Official autopsy reports have not been released, but Andrea says she knows from what doctors told her how her son died.

Andrea says Skyler donated his organs which saved two other children's lives.

Blue Funeral Home in Marion is taking care of funeral arrangements.

Johnson is expected to be back in court in September.
