TRIGG COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, traffic will be halted on the US 68/KY 80 Eggner's Ferry Bridge across Kentucky Lake/The Tennessee River for about 10- 15 minutes sometime Friday evening before dark.

There was a delay as workers prepare for the test.  It was supposed to take place on Friday afternoon, according to KYTC.

A state transportation spokesperson says this will allow a for a test to prepare for construction of a new Eggner's Ferry Bridge. It's part of a contract for construction of the Lagoon Bridge that is continuing at the site.

An explosive charge will be detonated which will cause the a load of several hundred pounds to bounce. Officials say sensors on the piling will gather data that will be used during the design of footers for the main bridge piers.

Traffic on the US 68/KY 80 Eggner's Ferry Bridge is expected to be halted only about 10 to 15 minutes to allow the explosion to be set off.

The US 68/KY 80 Eggner's Ferry Bridge is at the Marshall/Trigg County Line and serves as the western entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.
