CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau Fire Department rescued some people Thursday, August 22 after a boat got stuck on a sand bar on the Mississippi River at Cape Rock.
The fire department was dispatched around 3:58 p.m. and launched their Boston Whaler for the call. They said the Boston Whaler could not reach the people because the water level was below 2 feet.
Fire fighters say they then had to launch one of their red inflatable Zodiac boats. They say two fire fighters took the boat to where the stranded pontoon boat was and to get exactly where it was stranded, one of the fire fighters had to walk the inflatable up to the pontoon.
They say they then helped two people into the inflatable and brought them back to shore. They then went back and brought in a single female that was floating down the river on a small inflatable because they said she had gotten stuck on the same sand bar.
The marine units were on scene for about three hours.
