Coroner: Alcohol suspected factor in death of man found in cornfield

BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler reports a body was found inside a vehicle in a corn field south of Benton Tuesday evening.

According to Leffler, The Franklin County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call at 6:01 p.m. reporting that a passerby noticed a car in a corn field and stopped to check on the vehicle when he noticed a deceased man inside.

Leffler said the body is that of a known 50-year-old man from Benton. The car was about one-fourth of a mile south of Forest Baptist Church Road on South Hill City Road. He said no foul play is suspected and alcohol is a suspected factor on the death.

An autopsy is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The name of the man is being withheld until family has been notified.

The Franklin County  Sheriff's Department and Franklin County Coroner's Office are investigating the death.
