Pinckneyville Correctional Center on lockdown after inmate soccer fight

PINCKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

The Pinckneyville Correctional Center is on lockdown after a fight in the exercise yard Sunday afternoon.

Tom Shaer, Director of Communications with the Illinois Department of Corrections, says tempers flared in a soccer game in the exercise yard and involved numerous inmates.

Shaer says nothing physical occurred Sunday morning or previously that related to the fight.

He says second fight happened when the soccer players were lined up for wellness checks to see if anyone was hurt.

Correctional officers used pepper spray to break up the fight.

No correctional officers were assaulted or injured.

The prison remains on a Level 1 lockdown.
