VAN BUREN, MO (KFVS) -

A Harrisburg man died Saturday, August 17 on the Current River.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Christopher M. Retzloff, 52, drowned after being knocked off his raft by a tree branch about 200 yards north of a bridge in Van Buren on the Current River.

He was pronounced dead by Carter County Coroner Erik McSpadden at 7:05 p.m.

This comes nearly two months after another drowning in the same part of the Current River. At the time, the coroner said there had been three drownings in the Van Buren area in the past three years, so this most recent death brings the total to four.

Back in June, the Carter County Sheriff's Department released a statement asking saying everyone should remember to keep personal safety devices with them any time they go out on the water.
