A Carbondale man has been sentenced to prison for arson.

The state’s attorney in Jackson County says that Jason W. Mann, 33, of Carbondale, who was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with aggravated arson, pleaded guilty pursuant to a plea agreement.

Mann was sentenced to serve seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He will serve a three-year mandatory supervised release after the seven-year sentence is up.

According to the state's attorney's office, in December 2012, Mann was accused of lighting a mattress on fire in an unoccupied apartment on Ash Street in Carbondale.

Investigators say spray adhesives were found at the scene. And, similar material was found on Mann's clothing and in his apartment.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Fire Department, Carbondale Police Department and the Illinois State Police Forensic Science Center in Springfield, Illinois.
