Sheriff Mulch says in a news release that effective August 19, everyone entering the courthouse will be required to wear "proper dress."

The following types of clothes is not considered proper dress:

  • Cut-offs
  • shorts of any type
  • House slippers/shoes or comparative footwear
  • Tank tops
  • Muscle shirts
  • Halter half/tops shirts
  • Mesh or see-through shirts
  • Hats or do-rags
  • Pajama tops or bottoms
  • Clothing with inappropriate or offensive logos, pictures or writing

Clothing shall be worn correctly and as designed, according to the sheriff.

By order of the sheriff and resident Judge: Notwithstanding the above,  if a Judge, office holder or sheriff's deputy determines your attire is not appropriate, you will be asked to leave. You may be allowed to return wearing proper attire if you return within a reasonable amount of time for your court date.

Jefferson County employees will be reminding those entering the courthouse this week of the new changes.
