Charleston team heads to Babe Ruth World Series

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

There could be a Senior Babe Ruth World Series championship team from the Heartland.

Head coach Michael Minner's Charleston Fighting Squirrels left early Tuesday morning from Hillhouse Park.

The team is heading to Andalusia, Alabama, with the opening ceremonies set for Thursday.

Charleston is 50 and 9 on the season and riding a 10-game winning streak heading into the Babe Ruth World Series.

"It's very exciting, we've had this goal all summer and we said at the beginning of summer if we didn't make it, it was a disappointment," said Chase Young, left-fielder. "We're lucky to be here and were hoping to represent this community and this area in the state well. It makes you feel good, we've played pretty much everyone in the area. It's great to know were the one team still left. It's something I'll remember for the rest of my life."

We'll keep you updated on their progress in the Babe Ruth World Series.
