EAST PRAIRIE (KFVS) -

An East Prairie man is facing felony drug charges following an investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department.

George Edward Taylor, Jr. faces charges of possession of a controlled substance.

According to Sheriff Keith Moore, deputies saw Taylor use a credit card to get inside his rented apartment. He then saw the deputies and closed the door and stepped away from the home. After questioning, Taylor was unable to tell officers why he had and locked himself out the building again and not gone inside, according to Moore.

Deputies say after the suspicious activity, they got consent to search his home.

According to the sheriff, deputies found a duffle bag which contained marijuana, seeds and a glass pipe with a residual amount of a controlled substance inside.

Deputies say Taylor admitted to owning the items, and said he had used the pipe to smoke crack cocaine.

“The deputies acted on what appeared to be a burglary in progress,” said Sheriff Moore, “but then learned the apartment was being used store illegal drugs.”

Taylor was taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000.

Moore says as with all persons found to be in possession of illegal drugs in government subsidized housing, Taylor will also be banned from living in or even visiting the units upon his release.
