Major case squad activated after body of female found in burned car

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The SEMO Major Case Squad is investigating a homicide in Scott County.

Authorities got a call from a farmer about a car fire Wednesday around 7 p.m. with a possible body inside, according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.

The car was found in a cornfield off of County Road 323 a couple miles south of Scott City.

The SEMO Major Case Squad was activated about an hour after the body of a female from Scott County was found in the burned car.

The identify of the victim has not been released.

The SEMO Major Case Squad is comprised of the Scott County Sheriff's Office, New Madrid County Sheriff's Office, Sikeston Department of Public Safety, and the Missouri Highway Patrol. The State Fire Marshal was also on the scene the night of the incident.

An autopsy was performed, but Sheriff Walter could not reveal cause of death at this time.
